Ever wonder what the most expensive things in the world are? Yes they are expensive wines, expensive cards and even expensive shoes. But what if you broke it down and you really wanted to know what the most expensive things in the world are by weight.

Sure a Ferrari cost $400 plus dollars but the average weight of a Ferrari is 1,517 kg (3,344 lb). If you take that into consideration then the average cost of a Ferrari pales in comparison of some of the most expensive things by weight in the world.

For example if cocaine were 1,517 kg or 3,334 pounds that cocaine would be worth 6 million dollars.

So we have compiled a list of the most expensive items in the world by weight.  Normally we would think gold or other precious metals would dominate this list but as you see it doesn’t even come close to some items on this list.

Saffron — $11 per gram

Saffron is a spice is unique that has been used for generations in the Middle East and is known for its great flavors and health benefits. However, extracting saffron is so time consuming and labor intensive as it comes from the stigmas of a flower that are so delicate and tiny that by weight Saffron is one of the most expensive things in the world.

 

Methamphetamine — $100 per gram

We have all seen Breaking Bad and we all know the dangers of Methamphetamine and what it has done to society. But the highly addictive components of Methamphetamine has created such a demand that the price per weight is almost double that of gold.

Rhinoceros’s horn — $110 per gram

Another disgusting aspect of society is killing animals for their value. The fact that rhino horns are outlawed has made them even more valuable on the open market.

Science has proven that rhino horn has no medicinal properties but are still hunted to near extinction based on the value of their horn and the promise of medicinal value from Asia. The demand has skyrocketed the demand for rhino horn with no proven merit

Heroin — $130 per gram

Once again human addiction and dependence make the list as one of the most valuable items by weight in the world. Heroin prices have skyrocketed since 9/11 with crackdowns on boarders as it has become harder to get which probably why it’s so expensive and the fact that addict need this to function every day as they will do and anything to pay for Heroin explains the price.

Plutonium — $4,000 per gram

Plutonium is one of the hardest material to come by and is a heavy yet fragile radioactive metal of a silvery-white color. Plutonium is used for the production of nuclear weapons and fuel for spacecraft’s which makes this item so valuable on the open market.

Painite — $9,000 per gram

Painite is so rare that only a couple hundred of these stones in the world today. It’s a mineral of an orange or reddish-brown color, and it was only discovered 65 years ago. Though it has no use the fact that it is so rare makes it so valuable.

Diamond — $55,000 per gram

Diamonds are the most famous precious stone on Earth and has been used for wedding rings and machine equipment. Due to a drop in world supply diamonds are becoming harder and harder to find and the wedding and industry has made diamonds an essential part of our daily lives.

Californium — $25-27 million per gram

Californium is the most expensive chemical element ever. Californium is a radioactive chemical element first synthesized in 1950 at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Antimatter — $62.5 trillion per gram

Topping the list of the most expensive substance on Earth is Antimatter. Production of one milligram of Antimatter costs about $25 million. In theory, we will be able to use antimatter as fuel for space ship in the future.

Most people in the world can’t afford some of these of ever would ever want to in some cases. But what if you won the lottery. I am sure you would be able to afford most things on this list (minus the drugs) and Antimatter of course.
